Centering Black Communities in (Im)Migrant Justice

February 20, 2020 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm

- Free

This event will highlight the experiences of Black migrant communities in Houston, from examining the factors behind forced Black migration and displacement globally to realities in the U.S. and Houston.

Through a short documentary, dialogue and story-telling, we will explore topics including detention conditions, what’s happening at the Mexico-U.S. border, the eroding of pathways to asylum, barriers to accessing services and resources, as well as the invisibility of Black migrant communities in the larger movement for im/migrant justice. We will also draw connections between the experiences of African-Americans and Black migrants, highlighting our shared realities, histories and ways we continue to build solidarity and political power.
