All seventy-eight 287(g) agreements in the country will expire on June 30, 2019. This is a crucial opportunity to prevent your community from continuing its participation in this terrible program, which incentivizes racial profiling and has led to thousands of deportations. Join our webinar to learn more about the 287(g) program and how to end these agreements in your community. Additionally, the Immigrant Legal Resource Center is releasing its newest toolkit “Ending 287(g): a Toolkit for Local Organizers”. Our new toolkit is a resource for your community to take action and fight back against the wave of 287(g) agreements that has grown under this administration.
The ILRC is committed to building the capacity of local organizers and advocates to cut the ties of entanglement between local law enforcement and ICE. One of the most dangerous types of collusion between these two parties is what is known as a 287(g) agreement, which allows ICE to deputize local law enforcement officers to perform some immigration enforcement tasks, and results in even more deportations.
Our toolkit contains a compilation of essential background information on 287(g) agreements, resources for research and to prepare campaigns, and sample campaign materials to end 287(g).
