Major Responsibilities:

Cohort Member Support (70%)

  • Exceptionally organized approach to providing services to cohort member and cohort needs

  • Resourceful, solutions seeking approach to providing services to cohort to member and cohort

  • Approaches member and partner support and capacity building creatively to identify and coordinate communications opportunities

  • Explores how new social media platforms and features can be used for organizing and advocacy goals

  • Meet additional needs related to earned media, report writing, scripts, campaign writing, email writing and other communications efforts, as needed

  • Provides coaching and technical assistance to other organizers and community members, helping them use technology and online outreach to further organizing goals

  • Facilitates the Communications team efforts to help train members and leaders to share their stories through videos, images, writing, press interviews, storytelling trainings etc.

  • Works in the field to support photography and video needs with members, partners and staff, for field events, media, and other photo-worthy moments as needed

Coordination with Houston in Action team (15%)

  • Attend, report and contribute to team meetings

  • Share cohort updates in staff meetings and cohort meetings

  • Manages communications projects as assigned by cohort, collaborating with members, necessary Houston in Action team members, external members or partners, and executing steps on a timeline

  • Develops or manages the development of compelling content, graphics, copy to further narrative priorities, including graphics, messaging, and videos with support of Houston in Action team. Additional content creation as needed for social posts, online ads, email blasts, etc.

  • Manages social media calendars of cohort members

  • Engages members and partners in social media campaigns/efforts and provides support and training to partners to strengthen their social media efforts

  • Leads social media channel growth strategy and tracks progress to goals for cohort members

  • Works closely with the Data team in tracking, evaluating, and reporting on the effectiveness of our cohort member social media analytics, provides strategies for improvement

  • Makes updates to cohort member websites using WordPress, on an as-needed basis

  • Uses email as needed to meet cohort member campaign goals

Member program participation (10%)

  • Possible participation in Houston in Action network Narrative Working Group and subgroup lead role in support of earned media, narrative, and other media relations activities.

  • Possible participation in Houston in Action Digital Organizing & Learning program in support of cohort member paid digital strategies.

  • Potentially guide shared campaign materials process among cohort members

Skill-building and training (5%)

  • Participate in internal training and peer learning opportunities for community organizing communications

  • Share skills with other communications team members during peer learning opportunities
