The Migrant Protection Protocol (MPP), also knows as the “Remain in Mexico” program was announced in December 2018. Asylum seekers were returned to Mexico while their immigration proceedings took place in the United States. The Biden Administration suspended the program in early 2021 and now asylum seekers with active cases under the MPP program are entering the United States.
